Email aliasing gives you a separate address for a person, service, project, or sign-up. Messages sent to an alias are forwarded to a verified recipient you control. You can disable an alias when it becomes noisy without changing your real address.
idler.me is a one-person, self-hosted deployment of the open-source AnonAddy application. It is a small invite-only community service, provisioned manually and operated on a best-effort basis.
What it supports
- Shared-domain aliases, where available, and standard aliases on your account-owned username or domain.
- Forwarding to verified recipients, plus replies and sends from an alias when the application accepts the message.
- Custom domains after ownership verification and the required mail records are in place. A subdomain can avoid conflicts with an existing mail provider.
- Optional OpenPGP encryption for forwarded messages when you add a public key. Attachments are part of the encrypted message body when encryption is enabled.
Email still passes through the service. Failed deliveries may be stored if that account setting is enabled. OpenPGP does not remove routing metadata or make the whole service anonymous.
Access and limits
Access is invite-only. There is no public signup, billing, or published quota for this instance. Exact local limits, retention, backup behavior, and permission to use custom domains are TODO: confirm with the operator rather than guessed from the hosted addy.io service.
Do not use the service for spam, bulk sending, account farming, abuse of shared domains, or marking forwarded messages as spam. Accounts may be disabled for abuse.
